Alberta Veterinary Medical Association Service Award Recipients

Edmonton, AB — The Alberta Veterinary Medical Association (ABVMA) is pleased to announce the recipients of its annual recognition awards. The awards were presented at the ABVMA/ABVTA Awards Recognition Ceremony, held virtually on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021.

Dr. Nick Nation — 2020 Meritorious Service Award
This award is presented to a member of the ABVMA in recognition of outstanding service to the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Leighton Coma — 2020 Veterinarian of the Year Award
This award is presented to a veterinarian member of the ABVMA in recognition of outstanding contributions to the veterinary profession.

Jessica Benoit, RVT — 2020 ABVMA Veterinary Technologist of the Year Award
This award is presented to a registered veterinary technologist member of the ABVMA in recognition of outstanding service to the veterinary profession.

Dr. Jessica Law — 2020 Young Veterinarian of the Year Award
This award is presented to a new ABVMA member in recognition of emerging leadership in the veterinary profession. This award is normally presented to a veterinarian who has graduated within the last five years.

Dr. Kathleen Keil — 2020 Communications Award
This award is presented to a member of the ABVMA in recognition of activities enhancing the image of the veterinary profession.

Dr. Craig Hellquist — 2020 ABVMA Outstanding Mentor - Individual Award
This award is presented to an ABVMA member in recognition of individual characteristics of mentorship who has a large impact on the career of another or others.

Central Veterinary Clinic — 2020 ABVMA Outstanding Mentor - Practice Award
This award is presented to an Alberta veterinary practice in recognition of creating an environment of mentorship that helped to launch the career of a young practitioner or practitioners.

The Alberta Veterinary Technologist Association (ABVTA) also presented five awards at the event.

Dr. Lisa Lomsnes — 2020 ABVTA Meritorious Service Award

Dr. Colleen Pratt — 2020 ABVTA Meritorious Service Award
This award is presented to a member of the ABVTA or ABVMA, in recognition of promoting the role of veterinary technologist in the veterinary industry to the public.

Sydney Frost, RVT — 2020 ABVTA Lucille Landals Emerging Leader Award
This award is presented to a new member of the ABVTA in recognition of outstanding contributions to the association and the professional community.

Fiona Kowalczyk, RVT — 2020 ABVTA Appreciation Award

Kate Simon, RVT — 2020 ABVTA Appreciation Award
This award is presented to an ABVTA member in recognition of outstanding service to the ABVTA.

The evening also recognized 35-year veterinarian and veterinary technologist members, 50-year veterinarian members, as well as several committee and Council appreciation awards.
